Is Wealthy Affiliate A Scam?

skeptical face

I’m a Born Skeptic

Let me start by saying that I am a very skeptical person. I don’t believe in Bigfoot, the Loch Ness Monster, and although I do believe there is life on other planets, I don’t believe that alien ships are swooping down every day and abducting people for experiments.

I’ve always been the kind of person who needs some evidence to believe in something. Having said that, when I was young I was pulled into a couple of risky scams including a pyramid scheme in which I handed over a large sum of cash thinking I could bring people under me to give me their cash.

Being in my early 20’s I was very gullible. Since that time, I have had many people come to me with multi-level marketing programs, cosmetic sales, jewelry sales, etc. and I’ve never found anything that I felt was really worthy of my time.

What changed my mind?

Recently, I was searching around online for job postings. I have had my own lighting business since 1992, but technology is changing and LED bulbs are taking over the market. Since LED bulbs last for 5 years or more, I’m literally selling myself out of a job.

I needed to find a way to supplement my income, and have something to transition into when this business can no longer support me. I was specifically looking for online businesses that are not scams when I stumbled upon this site called Wealthy Affiliate.

My first reaction because of my skepticism was to just “X” out and leave the site. But, the more I looked, the more I was intrigued by what they were offering.

How Do You Know if Something is a Scam?

First off, it’s COMPLETELY FREE to sign up so there’s no risk to look further. In my opinion, something is a scam if it asks for money up front, without being able to try it first. Secondly, there’s a whole training level under the free membership that allowed me to create a website, and it led me through setting it up step by step. Third, any questions I had while setting up my website were quickly answered by just doing a simple search in the “Need Help?” search box.

Whenever I got stuck on something, either I found the answer by searching or there was someone in the community who was happy to help me. I’m not going to say that it was simple, but I will say that if you follow the training by each level, that it was easy enough for anyone to set up a website.

I like to think of WA as an “Affiliate University”. This is a sample of what it looks like when I log in and click on the activity dashboard:

WA activity dashboard

It’s kind of like Facebook. There are users posting questions and blogs and at the right there is a feed of the live chat where people can ask for help. All of the training and tools are easily accessible on the left, so you always know where you’re going. It makes it very easy to use.

Is WordPress Hard to Use?

Wealthy Affiliate gives you access to WordPress, which is a software program that allows you to build a website. I have found that it’s pretty easy to use and I was able to quickly get a website setup in a matter of a couple of days. They give you access to a few themes which have nice colors, graphics, and fonts.

You could go to a site like GoDaddy.com, set up an account, and create a simple website, but the thing is…there is no one there to train or help you when you get stuck. There is no one there to help you learn how to set up an affiliate program. Sure, they have some support, but will they have a community of people who are in the same boat you’re in who are willing to help you steer your ship? I don’t think so.

The step by step training by Kyle, one of the Wealthy Affiliate creators, is invaluable. I have never seen an online training program like it anywhere. It’s like an online college. He will walk you through the most basic of steps like setting up your WA profile, picking out a niche for your website, understanding how to make money with your website, and much more.

I do have one suggestion if you are really thinking about setting up a website: If you already have a good domain name, go to NameCheap.com and lock in that name because it’s less than $15.00 per year.

Try it, it’s FREE!

I can tell you from the bottom of my heart that Wealthy Affiliate is NOT A SCAM. I am someone who likes to sleep at night, and I would not feel right referring something that isn’t legitimate. If you still don’t believe me, then you will just have to see for yourself. Click on the link below and take a chance. IT’S COMPLETELY FREE TO TRY IT! You have NOTHING TO LOSE!

  1. Hello! I liked your article very much because your WA review is different from what I saw on other websites. Rather than focusing on the advantages and shortcomings of WA, you just share your experience and tell how you feel about it. I think this is also an interesting approach because you don’t have a systematic critics, but you rather tell a story. Thanks for sharing with us!

    1. Thank you for visiting my page. Yes, I thought I would go about it from my own experience which really has been great. I really feel positive about WA and hope to learn a lot more in my journey. 🙂

  2. I too have come across and have been stung by scams. This was a couple years back. I have tried many MLM programs, “push button” programs, do-very-little and rake in the cash programs, I’ve heard and seen a lot. Bottom line is, you always need to give people something they want effectively. The problem is, scammy websites understand how to pull desperate people in. It’s hard to find a program or training portal that actually have your best interest or is committed to providing training for you succeed online. There are one or two of them out there and in my opinion Wealthy Affiliate is number one. The reason for this is because the whole platform is constructed in such a way to be transparent and educational all in real time.

    1. Hi Andre,

Yes, you’re right and the key is that you LEARN and not just jump into a get-rich-quick scheme which is totally unrealistic. I’ve only been involved for a short time and I’ve already learned so much and I feel really positive about my future. Thanks for visiting my page. 🙂

  3. Hello

Well thought out review from your own insight of Wealthy Affliliate. Like yourself I did my fair share of research before getting too deep. I personally enjoy having my own business although new to the scene, the possibilities depend on the work you put in. If you ever need assistance just give me a shout.

    1. Thanks Taz, I’m sure I will need help and you are a perfect example of why Wealthy Affiliate is so great. You offered to help me and I didn’t even have to ask. Where else can you get that kind of community? 🙂

  4. Scams are so easy to spot for anyone who’s ever been in one or considered joining one. They’re also don’t usually offer excellent information for free like this Wealthy Affiliate program you mention does.

*Scams: “Give us your money, ask you questions later, and by the way, we won’t answer them…”.

*Legitimate Business’s: “We don’t want you to spend your money on something that’s of no benefit to you, so why don’t you just take a look first, then make a decision. Ask us questions at any time and we’d be happy to help..”.

Thanks for sharing this service, free training is always a great thing!

    Bryan-

    1. Thanks Bryan, and that’s the perfect way to look at it. If they’re asking for money upfront and not letting you see what you’re getting first, then it’s best to walk away. 🙂

  5. Great review.
With all these online scams going on, it is really hard to find any effective program however i must say that with Wealthy Affiliate it is not the case. I began literally with no clue about websites or the internet rather than using it to visit youtube and other sites. Now i’ve got my own website running and growing daily aswel as learning about many things which at first i thought they were out of my grasp. WealthyAffiliate is definetly something you can’t miss.

    1. Hi Alan,

It’s great to know that others are benefiting and learning so much from Wealthy Affiliate. I would feel confident referring any potential client to any of the WA users I have met because they’re all happy and satisfied. 🙂

  6. Hi there, your start of the text is interesting. But not believing in Bigfoot or Loch Ness monster is more a matter of logic than being skeptical. So I would say we are similar.

As for the rest about Wealthy Affiliate, I know you are right in how you describe it because I am a member and have two sites hosted there. Perhaps visitors of your site might like to hear opinion of an insider like me. Thank you for the text.

    1. Hi Jovo. Thanks for joining me with your input. I appreciate you backing me up on this. I hope your websites are doing well and I’m glad you’re enjoying your time with everything WA has to offer. 🙂
